- Mahindra Thar-based ATV showcased with military-grade design for Indian armed forces
- ATV built on Thar Roxx platform by Mahindra and Bengaluru-based Prad 4x4 collaboration
- Features include roll cage, gun mount, underbody blast protection, blackout lights, winch
A recent video circulating on social media shows a rugged Mahindra Thar-based All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) rolling out from a workshop. The ATV draws attention for its imposing size next to a Tata Tiago EV. Shared by Prad 4x4 on Instagram, the footage captures the military-grade ATV moving into city streets, highlighting its battlefield-ready design developed for India's armed forces.
This Thar ATV, built on the Thar Roxx platform in collaboration with Bengaluru-based Prad 4x4, represents Mahindra's push into defence mobility. Anand Mahindra first unveiled images on X, describing it as a "no excess, no ornamentation" machine focused on capability.
The vehicle ditches the standard cabin for a sturdy roll cage, metal bumpers front and rear, heavy-duty tow shackles, and a rear tandem tyre carrier with jerrycan holders. Key modifications enhance its tactical role. It features a gun mount, complete underbody protection against blasts, blackout lights, a front winch, and windshield guards for mission-grade survivability.
Designed for airdrop readiness, it tackles diverse terrains with shortened overhangs for better approach angles and RT-grade tyres on steel wheels. Powered by the familiar 2.2-litre diesel engine from the Thar Roxx, it delivers 172 hp and 400 Nm of torque.

The video's contrast shows the ATV's road presence. While the Tata Tiago EV, a compact electric hatchback measuring about 3.76 metres long and aimed at urban commuters, appears to be extremely small beside it, the Thar ATV's ladder-frame chassis and off-road stance dominate the frame. This real-world debut follows its showcase at the Raksha Triveni Sangam event in Prayagraj, where Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inspected the prototype.

Mahindra Defence plans to assess operational fitness of the SUV before potential orders. The ATV builds on Mahindra's legacy in rugged vehicles, adapting civilian off-road prowess for security needs without unnecessary frills.
