KTM India has introduced the RC 160 in the domestic market, priced from Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as the most accessible model in KTM's supersport range, it sits just below the RC 200 in the lineup. The RC 160 takes the place of the discontinued RC 125, offering riders a new entry point into the brand's sportbike family. Alongside this, KTM has also phased out the 125 Duke, replacing it with the 160 Duke. As the KTM RC 160 has been launched, it is set to rival the popular Yamaha R15 in the market. Here's a comparison that might help you make an easy decision. 

KTM RC 160 Vs Yamaha R15: Engine Specs

At its core, the KTM RC 160 is equipped with the same 164 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that powers the 160 Duke. This engine is tuned to generate 19 hp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The power from this engine is transmitted to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox. With all of this, the top speed is claimed to be 118 kmph.

The Yamaha R15 draws power from the 155 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine producing 18 hp of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. This unit is paired with a six-speed transmission. The bike also gets a quick-shifter and a traction control system.

The KTM RC 160 is equipped with a 164cc engine, while the Yamaha R15 uses a 155cc unit. On paper, the RC produces 19hp compared to the R15's 18hp, giving it a slight advantage in overall power output.

The KTM RC 160 has a trellis frame supported by 37mm inverted front forks and a rear monoshock. Braking duties are handled by a 320mm disc at the front and a 230mm disc at the rear, complemented by dual‑channel ABS for added safety. It rides on 17‑inch alloy wheels, ensuring stability and grip. The equipment list includes an LCD instrument cluster with connectivity and navigation functions, along with full LED lighting. Additionally, the bike is fitted with an assist and slipper clutch, enhancing rider comfort and control.

The Yamaha R15 is based on a Deltabox frameand comes equipped with a telescopic upside‑down front fork measuring 37mm, paired with a linked‑type Monocross suspension at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 282mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear, supported by dual‑channel ABS for added safety. It rides on 17‑inch alloy wheels, with a 100/80‑17 tubeless tyre at the front and a 140/70R17 radial tubeless tyre at the rear, ensuring stability and grip on the road.

KTM India has launched the RC 160 in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). 

Yamaha R15 has recently received a price reduction and is now tagged at a starting price of Rs 1.66 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 1.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
