Ahmedabad police crack kidnap case amidst high drama

Ahmedabad: A nine-year-old girl was kidnapped from Ahmedabad on Tuesday morning, but was released hours later, after her father paid Rs 50 lakh to the abductors. The abductors, however, abandoned the ransom amount and fled when their car met with an accident, police said.

The girl was kidnapped by four men, who were in a car, from Thaltej area of Ahmedabad when she was on her way to school. The abductors demanded Rs 2 crore from the girl's father, a real estate developer, but the amount was later finalised at Rs 50 lakh, they said.

According to police, it was planned that the girl's father would pay the money to abductors and inform the police, who would then nab them with the cash.

As planned, the girl's father paid the ransom money to abductors near Palej-Sanakha crossroad in Anand and his daughter was freed. He informed the police about the vehicle in which the abductors were travelling, following which police chased them.

During the chase, the abductors' car crashed into a divider near Petlad taluka while trying to avoid hitting a cyclist. The kidnappers abandoned the car and the ransom amount, and escaped from the scene, police said.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, Kheda and Anand district police.

A manhunt has been launched for the four kidnappers who are yet to be identified, police added.
