The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has lambasted the working of the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) in Gujarat, which is aimed at fighting malnutrition among children, saying that every third child in the state is underweight. While the BJP has defended state government, Congress and other parties have slammed the Gujarat government and Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Today, the government withdrew the ordinance that had been filed to overturn the Supreme Court verdict. The Supreme Court has said that MPs and state legislators will be disqualified from office if they are convicted in criminal cases.

A controversial ordinance that protects convicted parliamentarians and triggered a furious critique from Rahul Gandhi is likely to be withdrawn this evening by the cabinet. The Prime Minister has reportedly conveyed this decision in a meeting with afternoon with President Pranab Mukherjee, who had allegedly expressed grave reservations about the executive order when it was sent to him for his assent last week.

Lalu Prasad has been jailed in Ranchi after a court this morning found him guilty of corruption when he was chief minister of Bihar. The conviction means he is disqualified as a member of parliament, according to a recent Supreme Court judgement.
In a major embarrassment to the UPA government, Rahul Gandhi today denounced the controversial ordinance to negate the Supreme Court verdict on convicted lawmakers as "complete nonsense" and said what "our government has done is wrong".

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today called a meeting of the National Integration Council in New Delhi in the aftermath of the communal clashes in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, in which nearly 50 were killed and over 40,000 displaced.
