CPI Demands Apology From BJP For Electing Vijay Mallya To Rajya Sabha

VIjay Mallya's resigned from Rajya Sabha on May 4 which was accepted by Chairman Hamid Ansari.

New Delhi: CPI today demanded apology from BJP for "having had elected" Vijay Mallya to Rajya Sabha and asked if Prime Minister Narendra Modi will react over the episode involving the businessman who is accused of not paying the debts to the tune of Rs. 9,000 crore.

"BJP should apologise to the nation for having had elected Vijay Mallya to Rajya Sabha with its excess votes along with Venkaiah Naidu as their candidate from Karnataka," said CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy in his facebook post.

He accused Mr Mallya of influencing banks in his capacity of a Parliamentarian to take loans and "cheat" the country to the tune of Rs. 9,000 crores.
     
The Left leader also alleged that Mr Mallya "was allowed to go" to London where the latter is staying currently.

"Will the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi Jee react?" Mr Reddy questioned.

Meanwhile, the enforcement directorate has sought an Interpol arrest warrant against Mr Mallya to make him join investigations in connection with a money laundering probe case after Britain declined India's request to deport the liquor baron.
