Prime Minister's wife to inaugurate Delhi Police family centre
New Delhi: Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate a new family welfare centre of Delhi Police on the 66th Raising Day of the force on February 16, an official said on Wednesday.

"The new centre at Malviya Nagar in south Delhi will have 16 stalls selling several hand-made items by wives of Delhi policemen. It will help to supplement their family income," the official told IANS.

The centre will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's wife, the official added. Mala Kumar, wife of Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, will welcome her on the occasion.

"Policemen's wives could learn skills of making several products like spices and pickles at the centre. The other products like toys, children dresses, handicrafts and paintings are also in the list," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Provisioning and Logistic) RK Jha told IANS.

He said the products will be available not only for family members of policemen but visitors from outside could also buy these products.

If things go well, products would also be demonstrated at the annual trade fair at Pragati Maidan and at Delhi Haat near INA Colony, he added.

Earlier, the old family welfare centre had been defunct since 2007.
