The session, being held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, will include Mr Shah's ratification as the new party chief and conclude with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address.

The national council will also adopt a political resolution that will focus on the political and economic issues as well as the initiatives taken by the BJP-led NDA government and its roadmap ahead.

This is the first meeting of the party's national council after BJP's victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

"This is the first national council meeting after the party's grand success in the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting will adopt a resolution that will include political and economic issues as also achievements of the new government and its roadmap ahead," BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told reporters.

The resolution will include various decisions taken by the BJP-led government and the steps to be taken by it in the time to come.

Top BJP leaders and more than 2,000 party leaders from across the county are participating, besides chief ministers and ministers in BJP-ruled states and Opposition leaders or CLP leaders in states where the BJP is not in power.

BJP national executive members as also presidents of the party's state units and BJP general secretaries and heads of various morchas and fronts in states and at the central level are also participating in the national council session.

Party patriarch LK Advani will also address party leaders. Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and other leaders of the party are also taking part in the deliberations.

Senior BJP leaders led by Mr Naqvi along with party general secretary JP Nadda and others on Friday reviewed the arrangements at the Nehru stadium.

Mr Shah had taken over as BJP chief on July 9 after Rajnath Singh resigned from the post soon after his joining the Narendra Modi cabinet.

Though BJP's parliamentary board, the highest decision- making forum of the party, approved the appointment of Amit Shah, the move has to be ratified by the party's national council, as per the party's constitution. (PM Modi Tightens Grip on BJP, Close Aide Amit Shah is Party Chief)
