Prince Harry helps save wounded British soldier
London: Prince Harry has been involved in 'multiple engagements' with the Taliban in an Apache gunship in Afghanistan, and has even helped in the rescue of a seriously wounded British soldier.

The Sun said the 28-year-old prince was "operating like a World War II Spitfire pilot" and has provided fire cover on many emergency rescue missions.

Harry has provided "top cover" to British helicopters vulnerable to ground fire, and has also identified and destroyed targets.

On one mission, he was responsible for protecting the welfare of an aircraft rescuing the wounded soldier, the daily said.

Harry has been on duty for more than four weeks in Afghanistan. He is part of a four-man team on standby 24 hours a day to take to the air. He is needed to destroy the enemy or provide cover for other aircraft.

"He's in the thick of it and is one of the lads. He's genuinely liked and respected by his comrades," a military source said. "He's genuinely risking his life in a war zone because he loves the army and his country."
