Shares of IT major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were marginally up ahead of the fourth quarter (Q4) earnings announcement.

Tata Consultancy Services will be in focus as it will report its March quarter and financial year 2021 earnings later in the day.

TCS reported revenues of Rs 29,642 crore in March quarter, registering a dip of 0.31 per cent in the December quarter wherein the revenues stood at Rs 29,735 crore.

TCS Q4 results will be keenly watched afterInfosys, the second biggest IT exporter in India, last week reported weak dollar revenue growth in Q4 and also gave a lower-than-expected revenue growth guidance for the current financial year.

Wipro shares traded higher on Wednesday, ahead of the IT major's fourth quarter earnings announcement later in the day.

Shares of IT major TCS fell by over 2 per cent on Wednesday despite the company reporting a higher-than-expected 73 per cent growth in its March quarter net profit.

The company, which posted a stellar results with 72.7 per cent growth in net profit for January-March 2016 quarter, has increased salaries of its employees in India by 8-12 per cent and by 2-6 per cent for those working onsite.

For the three months to March, net profit jumped 64 per cent to Rs 6,341 crore ($952.82 million), ahead of analysts' average estimate of Rs 6,280 crore. The year-ago quarter profit had been hurt by a one-off employee bonus.

Tata Consultancy Services on Monday delivered strong numbers in the fourth quarter, snapping a six-quarter streak of earnings miss. TCS - India's biggest IT firm - reported a net profit of Rs 6,341 crore on sales of Rs 28,449 crore in the March quarter, surpassing analyst estimates.

HCL Tech's June quarter revenues stood at $1407 million, slightly lower than estimates. In rupee terms, HCL Tech reported sales of Rs. 8,424 crore lagging behind analysts' estimates. India's fourth largest outsourcer's sales grew at 3.4 per cent as compared to TCS' 5.5 per cent.

Traditionally, the fourth quarter has been a weak period for IT players given the slow start to the year after the holiday season in some overseas markets.

Infosys will kick start the March quarter earnings, when it reports numbers on Tuesday. The next week will also see other IT heavyweights - Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and HCL Tech report numbers.
