Thiruvananthapuram:
A group of artists declared solidarity with the protesting residents of Vilappilsala demanding the closure of the garbage treatment plant. They sketched paintings in front of the Secretariat as part of the protest meet inaugurated by renowned sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman.
"The torture faced by Vilappilasala residents is similar to Hitler's Gas Chamber," said Kanayi Kunhiraman while inaugurating the meet.
"A problem that should have been solved amicably and on humanitarian grounds is being magnified by the Corporation and the Mayor. The three-month window-period has been wasted away by the Corporation," he said.
The meeting, which demanded alternate methods for garbage disposal in the city itself, was attended by a number of artists including N N Rimzon, Shafeeq, Vijayakumar Neyyatinkara, Jayachandran, Parthasarathy Varma, Harikumar, Hari Charutha, Anil Roopachithra, Premjith, S Gauthaman, Emil B S and Suresh Babu among others.
