Kerala government to examine steps for wage board report implementation
Kochi: The Kerala Government would examine the steps needed to be taken for early implementation of the recommendations of the Majithia Wage Boards for Journalists and Non-Journalists, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Saturday.

"The wage boards' recommendations have not yet been implemented. The Central Labour Minister has said that respective state governments have to ensure its implementation. This is a Central subject. I will examine this and see what can be done", he said after inaugurating the renovated building of the Ernakulam Press Club in Kochi.

Pointing out that the media had an important role in the democratic system, Mr Chandy said it was the corrective force. "We need to have tolerance towards media criticisms. This will strengthen democracy", he said.

Union Consumer Affairs Minister KV Thomas, who was the chief guest at the function, said the wage boards' recommendations had been accepted by the central government. However, there were some problems in its implementation.

"The centre is making all efforts to discuss it with the state governments and implement it with the help of state governments", he said.

The problems of the electronic media personnel were also under the active consideration of the Centre.
