Opium poppy cultivations discovered in Shirur, Pune district

Pune: Acting on a tip-off, Shirur police in the district on Wednesday raided fields in Nhavare, Vadgaon Rasai and Inam in Shirur tehsil and discovered opium poppy cultivation.

Ashok Kshirsagar, PI, said, "We raided the farm of Satish Gangadhar Korekar, where we found 186 plants of opium poppy.

Then we raided the farm of Dattatray Revba Chavan in Vadgaon Rasai where we found at least 900 opium plants. We also found 125 opium plants at a farm of Rajendra Shankar Salunkhe in Inam village."

Cases have been filed under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, he said.
