Ms Stephens was speaking to the press after her US Open quarter-final victory on Tuesday when she was interrupted by a bug that began flying near her.
"Oh my God!" the tennis star exclaimed loudly as she moved one way and then the other in an attempt to steer clear of what we can only presume is a rather large fly or bee.
In the background, a few members of the press giggled as Ms Stephens appeared to jump out of her chair.
"What is that thing...it looks like a dragon," she said. "That is so disgusting."
Ms Stephens carefully returned to her seat only for the pest to reappear. At someone's suggestion, she slipped off her sparkling white tennis shoe and attempted to swat it away.
"Okay, that was so disgusting. Wow. Sorry. What was the question?" Ms Stephens asked, trying to focus on the press conference again.
The tennis player tweeted a short clip of the incident on September 6, writing "Ooops!"

That bug was one of your fans that wished "they could be a fly in the room" during your press conference— Walter Oden (@Odentennis) September 6, 2017

Hate it when people just standby whilst a dragon attacks people!
And, of course, there was even a Game of Thrones reference thrown in:
Sloane Stephens, Mother of Dragons? Not quite, if this video is anything to go by!
