Both IIT Kharagpur and Vastu Shastra have trended on Twitter today.

NEW DELHI: To ensure their students become "well-rounded architects," the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, is slated to begin classes on Vastu Shastra for their first and second-year undergraduate students come August, according to a report in The Times of India. Faculty members believe that students should be familiar with ancient Indian architectural traditions since they are studying concepts prevalent in the West.

The institute's Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management also held a workshop on 'Vaastu in Global Perspective' on Sunday. It was conducted to provide attendees with a basic understanding of designing and managing built environment using the principles of Vastu and Fengshui.

"Incorporating Vastu principles in designs can make buildings more eco-friendly since principles of layout, measurements, ground preparation, space arrangement and spatial geometry are well defined in Vastu Shastra," Professor Joy Sen, IIT-Kharagpur, told news agency PTI. He also said that several leading architects and architectural firms are incorporating the principles of Vastu in their work. He also believes that more awareness on the matter is needed.

Not surprisingly, people of the Internet have a lot to say about Vastu Shastra being taught at an IIT. Both Vastu Shastra and IIT Kharagpur have trended on Twitter today. Here are some reactions shared on the micro-blogging site:
