What Mumbai Sex Worker's Daughter Shared on Facebook

In her post, the young woman, talks about how her family's life changed when she lost her father.

The Humans of Bombay Facebook page has shared yet another heartening story of a young woman who shows us what it's like to fight seemingly unbeatable odds, survive and ultimately win.

In her post, the young woman, who has not been named, talks about how her family's life changed when she lost her father.

"When my father passed away, life became hell for my mother and three sisters. My mother's as well as father's family began looking down upon us as a burden -- and in order to make ends meet, my mother became a sex worker," she says on Facebook.

She talks about her maternal uncle who would often beat her and her sisters if they left home without putting on a burkha. "My father was Muslim too," she says but explains that he didn't stop his daughters from studying or force them into the burkha.

Her mother ultimately decided to send off all the daughters to a hostel. "But that was a terrible experience where we would be starved for making small mistakes," she says.
Some eight years into their struggle, an NGO called Kranti reached out to the family. This is where they finally found happiness and confidence.

"My mother's family questions where we are -- they think she sold us to the flesh trade, but really she's protecting us and our future," says this young woman - words that are as heartbreaking as they are inspiring.

Today, this sex worker's daughter is a teacher for Teach for India, and there's so much she wants to do to better the world around her, with her new role as her aid.

Read her post right till the end to know what she plans to do next. She'll make you feel extremely proud.
