A video on YouTube shows the heart-rending effects of abuse on a rescued dog in Romania.
The footage, captured in a shelter called Breasta-Craiova, shows the dog, Pricilla, cowering and yelping in pain on being affectionately stroked by the woman who rescued her.
Pricilla looks terribly malnourished in the video. The descriptor on YouTube explains that she was abused since she was a puppy and found it difficult to accept a human being petting her. Her rescuer Monica Mitreanu can be seeing calling out to Pricilla sympathetically, but the dog seems visibly mistrustful of her initially. It takes her a while, but Pricilla eventually warms up to Ms Mitreanu, the video shows. It is hard not to notice that even though the dog barks in pain, she doesn't bite her rescuer.
The video also encapsulates Pricilla's subsequent recovery into a happy and well-adjusted pet once she is adopted by a loving family.
While the video was captured on November 11, it was shared on YouTube on December 31. It has since received over 2.3 million views.
