- A large black cobra entered a hotel room in Krabi, Thailand, at 5 am on March 27
- The snake crawled over a guest's neck, causing panic but no bites occurred
- Hotel staff called wildlife handlers who safely removed and released the cobra
A couple staying at a hotel in Krabi, Thailand, had a terrifying encounter when a large black cobra slithered into their room while they slept. The incident happened on March 27 around 5 am, when one of the guests was jolted awake by the sensation of something cold and slithering. She quickly realised it was a snake that had reportedly crawled over her neck. In the panic, she bolted from the bed, waking up her partner, who initially thought it was a nightmare or something supernatural before hearing the snake's aggressive hissing.
"Snake... it crawled over my neck," the panicked guest said.
Hotel staff called wildlife handlers who successfully extracted the agitated snake from beneath the bed and released it into the wild, as per Pattaya Mail. Fortunately, neither guest was bitten. However, the couple described the experience as deeply traumatic.
The reptile was identified as a large black cobra, measuring approximately 1.5 metres (5 feet) in length. As per reports, the snake likely entered through a small gap beneath the door.

The incident went viral after the guests shared footage online, prompting local authorities and travel experts to advise tourists to keep doors and windows tightly closed, especially in nature-adjacent resorts. Thailand is home to more than 200 snake species, roughly 60 of which are venomous, and hospitals across the country treat an estimated 7,000 to 8,000 snakebite cases each year.
About Cobra
The cobra is one of the most iconic and feared groups of snakes in the world, known for its deadly venom, distinctive hood, and striking defensive behaviour. Found across parts of Asia and Africa, cobras belong primarily to the genus Naja, though related species like the king cobra fall under a different genus.
Cobras are instantly recognisable for the expandable hood on either side of their head, which they flare when threatened. This display is meant to intimidate predators and signal danger. Most species range from 1 to 2 meters in length, although some can grow significantly larger.
Cobras are venomous snakes, and many species possess potent neurotoxic venom that affects the nervous system. A bite can cause symptoms such as paralysis, difficulty breathing, and, if untreated, death. Some species, like spitting cobras, can even spray venom accurately into the eyes of a perceived threat, causing intense pain and potential blindness.
One of the most well-known species is the king cobra, which is the longest venomous snake in the world, capable of growing over 5 meters. Despite its fearsome reputation, it typically avoids human interaction and feeds mainly on other snakes.
