Mumbai train murder: Cops stumble upon grainy CCTV footage

Mumbai: The Government Railway Police (GRP), probing murder of a 65-year-old woman whose body was found in a train, are still groping as the CCTV footages of the suburban railway stations have failed to yield any concrete lead.

According to GRP, grainy and blurred footage of suspected killer is hampering the probe.

"The suspect was seen in the CCTV footage installed at Thane station where he boarded Kamayani Express. The face of the man, who wore black T-shirt, is not very clear in the footage," Dilip Gore, senior inspector of Kurla GRP, said.

However, based on the footage a sketch of the suspect had also been prepared, Gore added.

"Later, we sifted through the footage of the CCTVs installed at Vikhroli, Vidya Vihar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) railway stations suspecting that he might have alighted from the train after committing the crime at one of the three stations. He could not be seen in any of these footages. We have so far gone through a total of 70 CCTVs but in vain," Gore said.

On April 30, Nanki Lal Mohammed Siddique (65), a native of Uttar Pradesh, was found with her throat slit in the ladies compartment of Kamyani Express by her grandson Mohammed Imran Siddique (20), who was accompanying her when the train came to a halt at Kurla, police said.

The killer appeared to be a local man, Gore said, adding that "The image of the suspect has been transferred via blue-tooth to all railway policemen in their mobile phones so that they can catch him in case they locate him".
