Red lipstick, the weapon of scores of fierce women. Every morning, they wake up, make up and finish up with a luscious coat of crimson on their pout, like face paint that prepares them for battle that is the daily grind. Because no other tool that instills confidence quite like this one. But it isn't enough to twist up and slap on. There's a right way and a wrong way even when it comes to red lipstick and that's the difference between chic stylista and borderline circus clown.

Take Sushmita Sen's new post. The glamazon, who is known for her toned triceps and vivacious charm, is seen preening in front of a pocket mirror touching up her red lips with a lip pencil. Her caption along with it says, "There's something about a woman applying lipstick. It's in the way she dares the mirror". And we couldn't agree anymore, Ms. Sen. There's a certain kind of magic when a woman swipes on a lipstick in a mirror and looks like the bomb dot com. There's also much to learn about applying red lipstick so that it turns out looking as ravishing as Sushmita.

So before you can go ahead and bring out your trusted rouge tube, make note of the right lipstick techniques, some straight from the star herself.

1. By no means should you attempt red lipstick in a moving vehicle or without a mirror. Red lips are like surgery; they require a steady hand and incredible precision. Make sure you're in a steady position, look straight ahead and apply slowly. That's the mark of an expert, which Sushmita seems to be.

2. No one likes the ungainly mark of lipstick on their coffee mug, especially after spending ages perfecting it. So once you've applied it, blot with a tissue, apply translucent powder over the tissue and finish off with another coat. It'll give it that coveted matte finish and keep it in place for hours.

3. Finally, the most important tip we've learned from Sushmita is that of lip liner. Lipstick bullets aren't always sharp enough to lend those sharp lip lines. That's why matching lip pencils do the trick to precisely line and fill in the lips.

Now you'll be well armed before you take your next outing with red lipstick.
