Anoushka Shankar's musical endeavour has taken her to Iceland this time. The musician is currently in Reykjavik, taking a "much-needed day off", feeling "reborn" and ready to perform in Zurich and Geneva. In a series of pictures she dropped on Instagram, Anoushka documented her time spent in the capital of Iceland. She took a refreshing dip in the steamy waters of the Sky Lagoon. Surrounded by towering cliffs and cloud-laden blue skies, the location looked mesmerising. She also embarked on a casual stroll in the streets of Reykjavik, overlooking the buildings and distant snow-capped mountains. The clear skies were a picturesque bonus.
Like Anoushka Shankar, if you are tempted to visit Reykjavik, then here are some things you can do in this land of fire and ice.
Hallgrimskirkja Church
Known as the largest church in Iceland, you can make the most of your time at the place by riding on the elevator to reach the summit of the tower. From there you can soak in the beauty of the surroundings with an unobstructed view.
Videy Island
For a quaint day out, take a ferry ride to Videy Island. You may capture the breathtaking vistas, observe the aerial life, and discover ancient ruins. The vast network of trails allows you to explore the island on foot or by bicycle as well.
Perlan
Also called The Pearl, Perlan is a natural history museum and planetarium in Reykjavik. Experience the force of nature, including earthquakes and volcanoes, witness the mighty and enormous whales underwater, or take a casual walk in a real, 100-meter-long ice cave.
Grotta Lighthouse
Take a bus from Reykjavik to reach Grotta Lighthouse, one of the most touristy places in the capital city. Either take a peaceful stroll along the coast or dip your feet into the secret hot tub while enjoying sunset views. The place is also a treat for people interested in bird watching.
Shop at Kolaportio
