Absolutely no garment in the world says grandeur like a saree does. It's resplendent and is the daily staple of so many Indian women, whether they're going to work or attending a wedding. This season, the saree is getting a slight upgrade and no, we promise it isn't something you won't be able to wear. Everyone's favourite pattern, stripes have made their way to the saree which is being lapped up by our favourite Bollywood beauties, with Deepika Padukone being the latest entrant to this club.

At a recent event where Deepika took the stage, the actress flaunted a red and white candy-striped saree with a contrasting black long-sleeved blouse and gold trim. Besides making a fresh fashion statement, her saree by Sabyasachi also gave us a sneak peek into his upcoming spring summer collection. Deepika kept her accessories muted and paired the delightfully preppy saree with red lips, drop earrings and a sleek bun.

Before too, Deepika has given striped sarees a try but it wasn't quite as bold a look. During movie promotions, she wore a subdued gold and white Raw Mango saree, heavy jewellery and a ponytail.

The striped saree trend has been making waves in B-town and Deepika is only the latest to join in. Before that, a few of our favourite lookers have turned up the traditional chic quotient with their striped numbers. Sridevi, who could teach us a thing or two about staying on trend, flaunts a black and white striped Manish Malhotra saree with a yellow trim and a matching embroidered blouse. She keeps the rest of her look simple with straight hair and pink lips. We don't think it could get any more summery than this.

Shilpa Shetty, queen of the quirky saree, obviously didn't just wear any old saree but gave it her trademark twist with the trending pattern. Along with a black and white striped Obik saree, Shilpa wears a colourful blouse that shows off her every curve and pairs it with a ponytail, geometric earrings and wrist cuffs.

Sonam Kapoor too made sure she was an early adopter of this trend. She sported a complete print-mixed look when she wore a black and white striped Raw Mango saree with a similar but busier blouse. This was completed with a choker necklace, a shiny curled updo and red lips.

Kalki Koechlin too chose a print-mix look when sporting a Maku striped saree but went for more subtle, casual touch. The look consisted of a thickly striped light blue pallu draped over a pin-striped blouse which Kalki wore with natural makeup and an updo. Cool and casual, we like how this lady is keeping it.

Not one to be left behind, Sayani Gupta too joined the mix...well, the print mix by trying out this trend. She wore a pastel toned Payal Khandwala striped saree with a matching floral printed blouse. Sayani finished off the look with a clutch, chunky earrings and heavy eye makeup.
