
It is that time of the year when many of us feel very patriotic and warmly towards our nation. India is celebrating its 72th Independence Day today and celebrations are on all over the country. While many of us take the holiday to be a day when we wake up late, do nothing, or take a quick trip outside the city, there are some of us who do exactly what we do all weekend - chill with our laptops. And for those who plan to do just that, here are some movies you can watch that are bound to get you all patriotic.

Swades
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, this movie about a NRI man’s homecoming from the US. Not just about a man returning to his homeland, the movie talked about Indians devoting their skills and knowledge for the betterment of their own people rather than another country way before it became a mainstream conversation. Mohan’s (Shah Rukh Khan) journey is very similar to Mahatma Gandhi’s story when he returned to India from South Africa. Also, the songs are epic.
Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India
A cult status film, Lagaan is one that hardly any person in India would not have watched and loved. Bringing patriotism and sports mania together in a film, Ashutosh Gowariker made a film that will probably never get old. Set in Victorian times, the tale of one man’s battle to get his village exempted from paying tax is a story that can be watched anytime and still enjoyed.
1942: A Love Story
An evergreen, a classic - this movie was a first in many ways: the first U/A certificate, the first Indian film to use Dolby Stereo, and one which is remembered not just for it’s story but also its music. The songs by RD Burman are still sung and listened to. The tale of its three main protagonists being lovers and revolutionaries is sure to leave you with pride and love.
