Diabetes and cancer need to tackled: Narayanasamy

Bangalore: After eradication of polio from the country, it is Governments priority now to prevent spread of diabetes, heart disease and cancer, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy said today.

Speaking at the Convocation of a private medical college here, he said Rs 28,000 crore has been allocated in the budget for National Rural Health Mission aimed at providing best medical facilities to rural poor.

There was acute shortage of doctors in the country and to offset this problem, Government has relaxed norms for setting up medical colleges in urban areas,he said, adding,"while 1325 universities are required, we have only 370," he said.
