Jaipur:
Depressed over frequent domestic feuds, a woman in Rajasthan burnt her two-year-old daughter and herself to death on Saturday, police said.
The woman. identified as Ganga Devi, 23, and her daughter Priyanka were residents of Anadra village in Sawai Madhopur district, some 170 km from Jaipur.
"Ganga's husband Kanha had stayed at their farm for work throughout the night on Friday. He claims that his wife and daughter were alone in the house," a police officer told IANS.
The officer said that Kanha was informed by his relatives on phone on Saturday morning that smoke was coming out of a locked room in his house. The relative said that Ganga and the child were inside.
"Kanha says that he rushed home and broke open the door. He found the charred bodies lying on the floor," said the officer.
He added that during room's forensic examination, a kerosene container and a match box were found. "Besides, the door was locked. So, it is suspected that the woman first set her daughter and then herself on fire," said the officer.
He added that the relatives have told police about frequent fights between Ganga and Khanha.
"It seems she was depressed over this. A case has been registered and we are conducting further investigation," said the officer.
