New Delhi: Actress Kareena Kapoor has addressed criticism that she 'abandoned' and 'neglected' her baby son Taimur, telling mid-day that "motherhood doesn't mean a woman must give up on herself." Taimur, Kareena's son with actor Saif Ali Khan, was born on December 20 last year. His parents hosted a Christmas party just after mother and child came home from hospital. Saif soon resumed work, promoting his film Rangoon which released in February. Kareena, who is often spotted out with friends, has not yet returned to sets but has worked sporadically since Taimur's birth, appearing in a fashion show and shooting a commercial in London. Kareena is now busy getting in shape for her new film Veere Di Wedding.

The trolls, however, have only taken aim at Kareena. "Taimur Ali Khan, you are so cute, sadly you will never know true meaning of mom, shame on Kareena Kapoor Khan for neglecting her child," read one critical tweet. Speaking to mid-day, Kareena said, "Going out with friends doesn't make me any less of a good mother. Motherhood doesn't mean a woman must give up on herself. It's easy to see a photograph of me and jump to conclusions, but people don't know my equation with my child. We are capable of multitasking."

Kareena Kapoor spoke to mid-day at the launch of a book by nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, with whom she works closely on her own diet and food habits.

Kareena, who is one of the leading actresses of the industry, had earlier said that she has no trouble achieving a balance between her personal and professional lives. "I have always balanced my work and my marriage. People thought that I wouldn't, and I did. I am going to continue to do that. I think women know how to multi-task," she told news agency IANS.

The 36-year-old actress, who is currently prepping for Veere Di Wedding, her forthcoming film, had earlier revealed that she plans to juggle motherhood and work by taking Taimur to the sets if she needs to. "I'll decide how I wish to go about my future projects after Veere Di Wedding releases. Getting back to work after having Taimur is a new experience. Although he will be with me when we start shooting in August, even travelling with me outdoors, I don't know how he will adjust to my long absence, if the film demands it. So, this film will be my testing ground in many ways," Kareena told mid-day.

Earlier in June, Kareena and baby Taimur headlined Tusshar Kapoor's son Laksshya's first birthday party.
