Two Women Arrested Over Blast in West Bengal's Burdwan

IEDs, detonators and SIM cards were recovered from the blast site.

Kolkata: Two women have been arrested today in connection with a blast which claimed two lives in West Bengal's Burdwan on Thursday.

Several improvised explosive devices or IEDs, detonators and SIM cards were recovered from the blast site. Printed material that mentioned Al Qaeda chief Ayman Al Zawahiri, Chechen rebels and even the Indian Mujahideen was also recovered from the site.

This has prompted an investigation by the National Investigation Agency, the Intelligence Bureau and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

The two arrested women have been identified as Rejara Biwi and Amina Biwi.

Rejara Biwi's husband Shakil Ahmed was killed in the blast and Amina Biwi's husband Abdul Hasan was injured. The second person killed in the blast has been identified as one Shobhan Mondal.

Police suspect that this group was involved with a terrorist outfit and they were using a rented house in Burdwan as a shelter.

The owner of the house has been detained.
