Tax officials give report on Kochi IPL to Pranab

New Delhi: Sources have told NDTV that the Income Tax Department is now homing in on the IPL's 'benaami' or unnamed investors.

The I-T department officials investigating the IPL and the BCCI have submitted a preliminary report to the Finance Ministry, which focusses on documents about 'benaami' investors in IPL and its franchises.

The I-T department is seeking all bid documents from BCCI and other team owners during its investigation. Also, the case is being handled directly by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, no other officials are being kept in the loop, sources said.

Submission of preliminary report was fast-tracked after Parliament was adjourned over Tharoor controversy on Friday.

This has been done so that the Prime Minister has more information upon his arrival and he can decide what to do with Shashi Tharoor.

The report outlines Kochi team ownership structure based on bid documents. However, further investigation on source of funds and other team owners still continues, sources added.

Notices will be served to IPL franchises by next week, the sources added.
