Relief for Kalanidhi Maran, police appearance cancelled
Chennai: Sun Network Chairman Kalanidhi Maran need not appear before Chennai police on Thursday.

In a major reprieve to the media moghul, the Madras High Court has quashed two cases of cheating and criminal intimidation against the COO of Sun Pictures Hansraj Saxena who's behind bars.

This after two distributors who had earlier complained told the court that they've reached a compromise.

Mr Maran was summoned regarding these two cases.

One of the complainants, film distributor T S Selvaraj, had claimed that he bought the distribution rights for Salem to a Tamil film produced by Sun Pictures for close to a crore. But instead of using him, Sun allegedly released the film directly in theatres. Mr Selvaraj had claimed that the COO of Sun threatened him when the distributor asked for his money to be reimbursed.

The Chief Operating Officer of Sun Pictures, Hansraj Saxena, was arrested recently.

Mr Maran's brother, Dayanidhi, recently quit as Union Minister after being accused of corruption.
