New Delhi: In his first Obama-style townhall, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took questions from the people, tackling a wide range of issues from health, foreign policy and cow vigilantism. The session was the showstopper in a day-long programme that marked two years of MyGov, the government's citizen engagement platform.

  1. Answering questions on good governance, the economy and the health sector, PM Modi said, "Last mile delivery is as important as policies. The benefits must reach the intended beneficiaries," PM Modi said.

  2. 'I feel very angry at the Gau Rakshak (cow protection) business. Some people engage in anti-social activities at night and are Gau Rakshaks by day. I want states to take action against them,' he said. 

  3. PM Modi launched a new app that will allow cellphone users to connect with website of the Prime Minister's Office and met the young team that developed it.

  4. He also distributed awards to the winners of competitions held on MyGov.

  5. The day-long programme had four sessions and panel discussions around the "Do, Discuss and Disseminate" theme.

  6. Top ministers and senior government officials engaged with the people on the panel discussions.

  7. Participating in the fourth session titled "Disseminate", Union finance minister Arun Jaitley said, "Social media is an empowerment tool,empowering every individual both giving and receiving information. It is also an accountability tool."

  8. Inaugurating the session, IT Minister Ravishankar Prasad asserted that the government wants to interact directly with citizens. "Digital India is the destiny of India and digital democracy is essence of India," he said.

  9. Around 2000 people were present in the audience, chosen for their level of engagement with MyGov.

  10. The MyGov portal was launched by PM Modi in 2014.On Saturday, it showed 3.53 million registered users and 3.4 million comments in 590 discussion threads. Its Twitter handle has 4,27,000 followers.
