Srinagar:
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today launched a membership drive for her Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Srinagar today.
This was Ms Mufti first public meeting after the death her father and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayed, who died on January 7. Thousands of PDP workers attended the party's convention.
Mehbooba Mufti has refused to take over as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and suspense over government formation still continues.
Ms Mufti, seen as a successor to her father Mufti Sayeed had earlier said that PDP "cannot move forward" in forming government with BJP unless the Centre takes "tangible confidence-building measures" to address the causes of alienation and works towards a lasting solution to the state's problems.
A week ago, BJP general secretary Ram Madhav held an hour-long meeting with Ms Mufti in Srinagar to iron out difference. but it could not break the ice.
After meeting Ms Mufti Ram Madhav had expressed hope that the alliance will continue and BJP party is committed to the Agenda of Alliance.
