Pakistan continues attacks at Line of Control, passes another resolution blaming India

Islamabad: Pakistan today passed its second resolution in a week condemning what it called 'Indian aggression' along the Line of Control, this time also calling for "constructive" engagement through dialogue.

The resolution came on a day Pakistan troops attacked two Indian posts at Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district. This month, Pakistan has violated the decade-old ceasefire nearly 30 times.

The resolution in Pakistan's National Assembly or lower house of Parliament condemned India for border firing on Wednesday, which it claimed had killed a Pakistan army captain.  The Pakistan Foreign Office had summoned the Indian deputy high commissioner yesterday to register its protest over the incident.

Calling it an "act of aggression", Pakistan called for a "constructive and result-oriented process of engagement" with India.

India has retaliated strongly after a spurt of attacks by Pakistani troops along the LOC, which escalated tensions after the killing of five Indian soldiers in a Pakistani ambush on August 6.

Last week, Defence Minister AK Antony said in Parliament that Pakistan's actions would have consequences on ties. Government sources say no diplomatic channel is open with Pakistan.

India has also not committed to a proposed meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif next month in New York, on the sidelines of a UN meet.

The 225-kilometres long LoC in the Poonch-Rajouri sector has witnessed daily firing since August 10. There have been over 80 ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops since January.
