Over 100 Students Fall Ill In Gujarat After Consuming Food At School Event

A festive celebration turned into a medical emergency on Wednesday as over 100 students from Longdi Primary School in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district, were rushed to hospitals following a severe case of food poisoning. The children fell ill after consuming a celebratory meal organized to mark the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti.

The event, arranged by the local Mahavir Samaj, featured a menu of pav bhaji, pulao, and pulao provided as a snack for the students. However, shortly after consuming the meal, dozens of children began complaining of severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting, sparking panic among teachers and parents.

Local authorities and emergency services acted swiftly as the scale of the incident became clear.

Approximately 25 students with acute symptoms were transported to Mahuva General Hospital, while more than 60 others received immediate medical attention within Longdi Village. Several other children were reportedly admitted to nearby private clinics to manage the overflow of patients.

"The situation was chaotic as so many children started showing symptoms at once," a local resident remarked. "Ambulances and private vehicles were used to ensure every child reached a doctor as quickly as possible."

Medical officials have confirmed that while the number of affected students is high, the situation is now under control. Thanks to prompt intervention, the health condition of all hospitalized children is currently stable, and many are expected to be discharged after observation.

Health department officials are expected to collect food samples from the site to determine the exact cause of the contamination. While the festivities have been overshadowed by the incident, the primary focus remains the full recovery of the young students.
