Moradabad:
Moradabad MP Mohammad Azharuddin has been taken into preventive custody by the police. Azharuddin was trying to go to Asaalat Nagar in Moradabad - the site of violent clashes between villagers and police yesterday.
The DIG of Moradabad, Ashok Kumar, was injured in the clashes yesterday and rushed to a hospital. He has suffered a head injury due to heavy stone-pelting.
According to sources, the police was carrying out raids in the village to nab an accused in a molestation case.
Locals allege that the police entered a house believing the accused was there, and threw the Holy Quran, being read by a young girl, on the floor. This got the villagers angry and resulted in a clash between them and the police.
The villagers reportedly torched the police vehicles as well.
