The highway blockade by Naga groups in Manipur continued today. The state government has been unable to find a solution to scarcity of supplies as a result of which prices are sky rocketing.

The blockade began on April 11 with the groups demanding greater financial power to district councils in the hills, but intensified when Manipur government cracked down on supporters of NSCN (IM) Chief Muivah demanding that he be allowed to visit his village.

The Ministry of Home Affairs team visiting Manipur had asked for airlifting of commodities, but the situation remains critical.

Here's a look at the unaffordable prices:

  • Cooking gas now costs between Rs 1000-1500 per cylinder
  • Petrol is Rs 150 a litre
  • Rice costs anywhere between Rs 100-150 a kilogram
  • Life saving drugs scarce
