New Delhi: "Rubbish!" - that's how D Raja, Rajya Sabha member and senior leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI) reacted to the charge that students affiliated to All India Students Federation or AISF including his daughter Aparajita shouted "anti-India" slogans at Jawaharlal Nehru University on February 9.

"With all the authority, I can say that none of the members of AISF or SFI were involved in any anti-national  activity," an angry Mr Raja told NDTV, adding, "My daughter is the president of the JNU unit of AISF. When there was a scuffle in the campus, as a responsible citizen, my daughter went to pacify. Let the Home Minister probe the charges."

Mr Raja was categorical that neither his daughter nor Kanhaiya Kumar, the president of the JNU Students' Union who was arrested by the Delhi Police on Friday, organized the controversial event that questioned Afzal Guru's hanging and allegedly raised anti-India slogans.

The name of Mr Raja's daughter and other activists of Left-wing students' organisation came up after BJP East Delhi Lok Sabha member Maheish Girri wrote a letter to the Delhi Police claiming that members of the groups were indulging in "anti-national" activities on JNU campus.

"Lies, lies and more lies. Let there be a proper debate. The latest video clippings show that some people were shouting pro - Pakistan slogans and the same people went to the other side and shouted pro ABVP slogans. Only a proper inquiry will reveal the truth," said D Raja who is now busy preparing to fight Kanhaiya's case legally in court.

Mr Raja along with Sitaram Yechury had met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to highlight, what they call, "disproportionate reaction of the Delhi Police."
