Janata Dal(United) Sarfaraz Alam Admits He Was Travelling In Train: Police

MLA Sarafaraz Alam has been allowed to go home on medical ground after four hours of questioning.

Patna: Suspended JD(U) MLA Sarfaraz Alam on Saturday admitted to travelling in the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on January 17 but claimed he did not abuse the Delhi-based couple, a senior police official said.

Mr Alam admitted to having travelled in the Rajdhani Express compartment but claimed he did not abuse the Delhi-based couple, Rail Superintendent of Police P N Mishra said.

Earlier, he had denied travelling in the train.

Mr Alam was intensively questioned by the Railway police in connection with his alleged abuse of a couple on board Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express on January 17, following which he was allowed to go home on medical ground, he said.

"MLA Sarafaraz Alam has been allowed to go home on medical ground after four hours of questioning," Mr Mishra told PTI late tonight.

He will be again questioned by GRP Patna today.

Mr Alam had pleaded he was a diabetic and needed rest at home and the Railway police relented, Mr Mishra said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi-based couple, who were allegedly abused by the Bihar legislator triggering the chain of events, wrote to Railway police that they did not want to further pursue the matter any more.

The JD(U) MLA from Jokihaat in Araria district has been booked for allegedly abusing the couple inside Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani on January 17.

The legislator has been charged travelling in the Rajdhani train ticketless in an inebriated condition and misbehaving with the Delhi-based couple, travelling in the coach.

He is third term MLA and son of RJD MP and former Union minister Mohammad Taslimuddin.

Earlier in the day Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar categorically said that law would take its own course in Mr Alam's case.

"Be it MP or MLA, nobody is bigger than law. The police has freedom to act lawfully against those breaking law," Mr Kumar had told reporters.

Hours after, the JD(U) suspended its MLA from the party.

The suspension decision was taken after a meeting between CM, JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav and state party President Basistha Narayan Singh.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad has also spoken for action against the Jokihaat MLA for allegedly indulging in abuse of women.
