High Court sends Uttar Pradesh animal husbandry director to jail

Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court, while hearing a case today questioning an official's transfer in the animal husbandry department, sent the director of the department to jail.

Dr Rudra Pratap, who heads the animal husbandry department in Uttar Pradesh, was sent to jail for contempt after he failed to produce the necessary transfer orders of an accountant posted with the department in Gorakhpur.

Angry with the delay in providing the documents, the court today summoned Dr Pratap and sent him to jail, holding him guilty of contempt.

However, the order was withdrawn after Dr Pratap filed a bail plea.

He, however, continues to face contempt charges for not furnishing the required documents.
