Heroin valued at Rs 17.5 crore seized in Punjab, two held

Amritsar: Punjab Police today claimed to have recovered 3.5 kg heroin having street value Rs 17.5 crore meant for different destinations, including national capital Delhi, and arrested two persons.

Acting on a tip off, sleuths of Special Operation Cell of the state police nabbed Swarn Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district, and Satbir Singh, a resident of Amritsar district, for possessing the drug.

As per preliminary investigations, the duo was indulging in cross border smuggling of heroin and was forwarding the contraband to different destinations like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Delhi, police said.

They said efforts were on to trace other members of the gang and identify the area from where the consignment was being pushed into the country from across the border.
