The independent state lawmaker and MLA from Langate and his was detained at Ram Munshi Bagh crossing on way to Gupkar residence of the Mr Sayeed and taken to a nearby police station, a police official said.
Mr Rashid was planning to protest outside Sayeed's residence against the killing of Gowhar Ahmad Dar.
Dar, an engineering student, was hit by a tear smoke shell allegedly fired by police to disperse a stone-pelting mob near his Zainakote residence last evening.
