Employees' strike in J&K called off

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Secretariat Employees Association (JKCSEA), spearheading an agitation for the past 11 days, on Tuesday called off the strike after the government agreed to meet many of its demands, including release of arrears.

"We have called off the strike in the interest of public, in response to a call given by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah," JKCSEA president, Nazir Ahmed Mir, told PTI.

The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held with the representatives of the government here. The government has agreed to implement the cabinet sub-committee recommendations of grant of arrears and other demands, he claimed.

The strike that began on April 3 had crippled functioning of various departments. The government employees were demanding release of arrears as per the 6th Pay Commission recommendations and raise of retirement age from 58 to 60.
