Centre wants answers on Maya's park
New Delhi:

A day after a team from the Centre's Environment Ministry carried out inspections at Mayawati's park in Noida, the ministry has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to respond.

It seems that the Mayawati government did not take the requisite clearances for the park.

The Mayawati government has reportedly cut down 6000 trees to make way for a memorial to Dalit leaders.

The Environment Ministry on Friday raided the park in Noida. The ministry had ordered an inquiry after residents complained that the park is right next to a sanctuary and is in complete violation of environmental norms.

However, the Supreme Court on Friday refused to stop the construction and asked the petitioner to approach the High Court instead.

The apex court said it cannot interfere in a government decision, and can only intervene if there's any misuse of funds.
