PM Modi warmly received Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Vladimir Putin, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other leaders at the Bharat Mandapam ahead of the Summit.
PM Modi said BRICS has reached a "coming of age" moment after two decades of growth, urging member nations to transform the bloc's unity and consensus into tangible outcomes on the global stage.

We respect each other's perspectives and move forward through consensus. We strive to advance not by opposing anyone, but by taking everyone along. Now is the time for us to translate our unity and consensus within BRICS into tangible results on the global stage,"PM Modi said.
India's BRICS Chairship is guided by the theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a people-centric approach rooted in the spirit of "Humanity First."

Multimedia producer at TV BRICS Africa, Melissa Hollow, on Saturday emphasised trading in local currency and having a system of payments among BRICS nations ahead of the summit in India.
Speaking to ANI, Melissa Hollow hailed the BRICS Pay initiative, stating that the QR-based payment system will make travel easier in the Global South.
"I agree with the trading BRICS Pay. I think it would make it a lot easier for us within the Global South for us to when we are travelling, especially to be able to transact in our own currencies. But it will also empower development within our countries to be able to trade in our own currencies. It's extremely important. It becomes easier also once you travel to be able to pay in your local currency, and it empowers our local currency so that our development is fast-tracked. I think more than ever in this global trajectory, we truly need a BRICS Pay system that works for all of us within the global south," the TV BRICS Africa producer said.
BRICS Pay is being developed as a bridge between national payment infrastructures rather than as a replacement for them. The initiative will cover customer-to-business (C2B) payments, initially aimed at travellers, as well as business-to-business (B2B) payments for international trade.

BRICS Summit 2026 LIVE: Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum, Amrit Udyan Closed From Today Till September 13
The Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum and Amrit Udyan will remain closed to visitors from Friday to Sunday in view of security and logistical arrangements for the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit.
The Change of Guard Ceremony will also not take place at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday, said the official in a statement.
The closure is part of an effort to minimise inconvenience to BRICS delegates and avoid congestion on roads by restricting public visitors to areas close to the Summit venue.
The Delhi Metro has also decided to keep its museum at the Supreme Court metro station closed for three days starting Friday.
While the Delhi government had earlier declared a holiday for its offices on September 11, the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued an official circular declaring a holiday for Central government offices on that day.

Clarifying the core objectives behind the proposed BRICS cross-border payment mechanism, Pawan Joshi, Chairman of BRICS International, stated that the initiative is designed to build financial bridges and bolster national sovereignty rather than replace global financial architectures.
Addressing misconceptions surrounding the project, Joshi emphasised that the BRICS Pay platform is not intended as an aggressive move against existing global reserve currencies.
"The focus here is sovereignty," Joshi said. "Our country is a great country, under a great leadership. Our vision is to bring our country into a fully sovereign setup. This alliance on that aspect and that is the system we are working on."
Joshi directly rejected claims that the platform is built to dismantle the established monetary order. "We are not claiming to replace anything. There is a misconception where people are talking about de-dollarisation. I don't believe in this," he stated, clarifying the collaborative and practical framework of the technology.
