Amritsar: Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh today accused the BJP of having double standards on the issue of the drug menace in the state.

"On one hand, BJP President Amit Shah talks about holding an awareness rally on drugs but on the other, they are running  the  government with the Akali Dal. We will not tolerate this,'' he added.

Mr Shah was today supposed to address party workers in Amritsar and launch a campaign against drugs. However, the BJP cancelled the rally due to the forthcoming Delhi assembly polls.

In his speech, Captain Singh also criticised Akali Dal leader Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for his "failure to curb drug menace" in the state.

He, however, refrained from making any comments about state unit Chief Pratap Singh Bajwa, whose removal he purportedly sought during his meeting with the party's top leadership earlier this month.

A total of 27 out of 43 Congress Members of Legislative Assembly attended the rally.
