Arunima had her leg further amputated

Lucknow: National-level volleyball player Arunima Sinha alias Sonu, who lost her leg after being pushed from a moving train, had her leg further amputated to prevent the spread of infection.

Arunima who was pushed off a moving train in Bareilly has now been shifted from Bareilly district hospital to the medical college in Lucknow.

The doctors say that they had no choice but to further amputate the athlete's leg.

"We have managed to save her life but her condition is still very serious. Her treatment will continue for months," said Dr. D K Gupta, Vice chancellor, King George Medical College.

Despite two surgeries the bleeding in Arunima's left leg has still not completely stopped.

Drained by the loss of blood she now also has septicaemia.

Because of these surgeries the police haven't spoken to Arunima, and those three men who attacked her last Tuesday are still roaming free.

"The police came from Bareilly to take her statement. But she was not in a condition to say anything," said Om Prakash, Arunima's brother.
