26/11 trial: Headley says he had warned Rahul Bhatt to stay out of south Mumbai

26/11 trial: Headley says he had warned Rahul Bhatt to stay out of south Mumbai
Chicago: On Day 4 of Tahawwur Hussain Rana's trial in Chicago, David Coleman Headley said that days before the 26/11 attacks, he had warned Rahul Bhatt, son of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, to stay out of south Mumbai.

Headley admitted that he befriended Rahul Bhatt and accepted that there was once a talk of bringing him to the tribal areas of Pakistan for sight-seeing. He, however, disagreed with defence attorney Charles D Swift that the plan was to kill or kidnap him.

"We do not invite guests and kidnap them," Headley said. "Nothing would happen to him because LeT does not believe in kidnappings," he added.

Headley said he was told during training that he shouldn't get close to people emotionally. "I was told that as a matter of creed, I should not think of him as my friend," he said.

Testifying in the trial of Mumbai attack co-accused Rana, Headley also told the court that Rahul Bhatt wanted to break into movies, but his father was not helping him.

Headley is believed to have met Rahul Bhatt at a gymnasium in Mumbai during one of his trips to India. (With PTI Inputs)
