What causes cysts behind the ear?

What is the cause for a cyst behind the ears? Should this be operated or can it be treated with medicines?

The cyst should be examined by a surgeon. Most cysts are dermoid cysts, which are developmental defects. Some are sebaceous cysts, caused by the blockage of the duct of the sweat glands. The important thing is to consult a surgeon.
