How to treat fungal infection of the nails?
Question
The nails of both my toes have turned black. The nail seems to be broken and also dead and when I look under my nail I can see some dead skin also. What should be done? My friends advised me to remove the whole nail and the nail can re grow. Can I just leave it as it is? I was planning to consult a dermatologist. Is he the right person to consult or should I go to some other doctor?

Fungal infection of nails is the common possibility one has to consider. I advise nail clipping for fungus examination. Oral anti fungal like griseofulvin or fluconozole can be considered. It has to be taken for a period of 12-18 weeks depending on the situation. Please consult a dermatologist who would be helpful in evaluating your case.
