A bomb scare for the second consecutive day sent police officials into a tizzy in Gurgaon after hoax calls were made to the Gurgaon and Delhi police control rooms.
An information was received at 9:23 am about a bomb placed in Arcadia Complex in South City Gurgaon, Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said. The complex houses offices and commercial establishments.
The police immediately began evacuating people from the complex. Bomb detection and disposal teams of Gurgaon Police were pressed into service. Fire brigade and ambulances were also rushed to the spot.
By 11:25 am, the entire complex was evacuated and cordoned off; traffic was also diverted.
Sunny Sharma, a resident of Shiv Vihar, Karala in n North Delhi has been detained by the Gurgaon Police after initial investigation.
According to the police, the suspect confessed that he made hoax calls to Gurgaon Police control room on Wednesday and to then to the Delhi Police Control Room today.
Sunny said that he made the calls to see how alert the police was.
Police has also recovered the SIM card and the handset used for making the calls.
Yesterday, a bomb scare at a metro station in Gurgaon disrupted services for nearly two hours. It later turned out to be a hoax.
Bomb threat calls also forced police to clear out people from the Vyapar Kendra in Sushant Lok area and Galleria Market in New Gurgaon.
The four-hour search operation by over 400 policemen revealed that the calls were a hoax.
