London: Russell Brand was prompted by his"masculine obligation" when he went all out to protect hisfiancee Katy Perry from the paparazzi at an airport last monthand got arrested as a result.

The incident at Los Angeles Airport saw the Britishcomedian hit out at photographers allegedly trying to takephotos up Perry's skirt.

"I tried to fulfill my masculine obligation to protect thewoman that I love..." Brand told UK TV host Lorraine Kellyadding that the matter "is subject to legal inquiries."

After the lash out, the stand-up artist has been slappedwith legal proceedings on charges of battery and is dueto appear in court on October 15, Contactmusic reported.

"I've got to go to court, so I probably have to becareful about what I say in case I land myself into acomplicated legal quagmire," said the 35-year-old actor.

Meanwhile, Brand is considerably smitten by his singerfiancee and calls his relationship "the most normal" he's everhad.

"She's a challenging individual to be in love with, but Ithink that's no coincidence. She's a remarkable person andvery engaging and interesting and intriguing," said Brand.

The couple are due to be married this month in a lavishseven-day long ceremony in India.
