New Delhi: Celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Kamal Haasan, Mahesh Bhatt and others reached Kolkata on Friday at the launch of 23rd Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF). West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the event. 144 films from 65 countries will be screened over the next week at 12 different venues. Amitabh Bachchan, 75, tweeted some pictures from the event and wrote, "Inaugurating KIFF, the International Film Festival in Kolkata... and the joy of being among dear colleagues and friends... and the love of the people of Kolkata... thank you all." Big B's post also features Shah Rukh Khan and Kamal Haasan.
 

Shah Rukh Khan too delighted his social media followers with a picture of himself with CM Mamata Banerjee and wrote, "Too much fun and love at KIFF 2017. Love my Kolkata & as always the warmth of #mamatabanerjee ...U r the sweetest."
 

SRK, who has been attending the film festival since the past couple of years, quipped that he that his 'Bengali needs to improve in the next edition,' reports news agency PTI. "Now, I am attempting eight lines in Bengali, please bear with me. I am honoured to be present at this special event of the film festival)," SRK told the crowd gathered at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata.

KIFF is the second oldest film festival in the country. Mostafa Taqizadeh's Iranian film Yellow was screened after the inauguration ceremony. It will also pay homage to veterans like Om Puri, Tom Alter and Ramananda Sengupta.
